Where's the Fox?

The quilt has straight line quilting stitches for the grassy area and borders.
Cloud shapes are quilted in the sky area (batik fabric).
The tree trunk, limbs, and leaves are outlined quilted.

I made this quilt for my niece's son, Hunter James Stephenson, born Feb 18, 2015.
She has a Winnie the Pooh Hundred Acre Wood theme for her nursery.  This is the third quilt made with this theme in mind.

Tami sent me a picture of a quilt upon which to base my design.  Every quilt has had a tree as the main focus.  This time she wanted a fox in the quilt as well.  She requested creams, sage green, butter yellow, and gray as the color scheme.  I designed the quilt with a trio of white birch trees.  (Birch trees are usually planted with at least three trees together.)  I used our birch trees in the front yard as inspiration and took a leaf from the tree to design the leaf motif.

I appliqued a silver fox.

The leaf fabrics were used in the two previous quilts made for Tami's two daughters.
I used a birch tree leaf to draw the leaf shape.

I found a modern print incorporating the gray/yellow/cream color scheme for the backing fabric.

I added a smaller fox applique to the quilt label.

Froggie

Froggie quilt was made for Hugs and Stitches.  It was machine pieced and quilted with a diagonal stitching line.

Friendship Braid Quilt

I made this Friendship Braid quilt for Hugs and Stitches.
It was machine pieced from scrap fabric.
The machine quilting was done in the ditch for the braids and a serpentine stitch for the border.

Bon Voyage Baby Nova

I made this quilt for Nova Madeline Smith, daughter of Chris' nephew Jeremiah and wife Robin.
The quilt is machine appliqued, pieced, and quilted.  

I added a name tag to the suitcase.

The balloon ropes were hand embroidered.

The quilt pattern is from The Freckled Pear and purchased at In Between Stitches in Livermore, CA.
The background fabric for the applique blocks is a batik fabric purchased at The Granary in Sunnyvale, CA.
The border print is a Japanese fabric purchased at Prairie Queen in San Jose.
The turquoise batik fabric was purchased at Beverly's in San Jose.  The turquoise fabric for the balloon and Eiffel Tower was also purchased at Beverly's.
The rest of the fabric is from my stash.

The Eiffel Tower has hand embroidered embellishments.

The flowers in the basket are hand embroidered.

The details on the jacket are hand embroidered.

The label on the back is a Passport with Nova's information.
The quilt is backed with "Paris pink" Minkee fabric.

To go with the travel theme, my daughters contributed Dr. Seuss' book, Oh The Places You'll Go and the French baby toy, Sophie la girafe.

Hudson's Nautical Quilt

This quilt is an original design for my first grandson, Hudson Peter Lien.  His nursery is decorated in a nautical theme and so my daughter Michaele asked me to make a nautical theme quilt in blues, sand, and gray, with red as an accent.
The lighthouse and sailboat blocks were paper pieced.  I quilted the top to bamboo batting.  Then I added a striped Minkee fabric for the backing and quilted around each block.

Shells and whale were appliqued with satin stitch.

Life preserver and anchor were appliqued with satin stitch.  Oars
appliqued with a buttonhole stitch.

Sailboat was paper pieced.  A wave pattern was quilted
on the water.

Sailor hat, anchor, and wheel appliques were satin stitched.

Beatrix Potter Baby Quilt

I made this quilt for Hudson, my first grandchild, as well as any future grandchildren to cuddle with when they visit Grandma's house!   I was able to use fabric from previous quilts using the Beatrix Potter theme as well as some new fabric.  I backed the quilt with yellow Minkee fabric.  The quilt was machine pieced and quilted.  I quilted the top to batting and then added the backing and quilted across the panels.

Bear Ballerinas

This quilt was made for Hugs & Stitches.  The pattern was from Fons And Porter Love of Quilting magazine. The strip has bear ballerinas and the 4 patch colors were taken from the bear print.  Quilt was machine pieced and quilted.  Finished August 25, 2014.

This quilt was made for Hugs & Stitches.  I designed the pattern based upon a segment I had seen on a TV quilt show.  It is the second I have made in this pattern for Hugs (other quilt is Blue And White Quilt, posted on Sept. 2013).
It was machine pieced and quilted.

I made this quilt for Hugs and Stitches using scraps from my previous projects for this group.  

The quilt was machine pieced and quilted.

I used scraps of bindings as well.

Angel Garden Quilt

A friend in Hugs and Stitches handed me some fabric and asked if I could come up with a quilt.  One fabric was cute girl angels on white background.  The second fabric was a pink button pattern.  The third fabric was an ugly green/turquoise modern looking pattern.  The fourth was a pink flannel for the backing.  I didn't know what I would do especially with the ugly green fabric.  

Then I thought of a pattern I had in my file using Beatrix Potter fabric called Garden Tales.  It would downplay the ugly green fabric and highlight the prettier fabric.  I was able to add to it lots of leftover pieces from earlier Hugs quilts.  I only had to use a few pieces from my own stash.  Overall I was pleased with the final result.  The pattern calls for rows of different designs.  I changed one row from a picket fence type design to pinwheels and small fussy cut angels.  The quilt was machine pieced and quilted in the ditch.  I quilted a scallop design in the border.

Primary Colors Kid's Quilt 1and 2

Someone donated nine quilt packets to our Hugs and Stitches ministry at church.  Each packet contained the same pattern (9 patch) and included fabric. The solid fabric colors were yellow, 2 blues, and green.  Really ugly!!!  No one wanted to do anything with this, but since it was a donation I hated to see it go to waste.   So I decided to take on the challenge.

I was able to make two kid's quilts out of the packets by adding my own fabric and trying to make it look more interesting.  The fabric I added was patterned to set against the plain solids.  I bought a bright yellow dot fabric for sashing for both quilts and the blue submarine fabric. The other fabrics were already in my stash.  Fortunately Hugs had some backings that could be used.

The blocks were machine pieced and quilted.  Quilt #1 was quilted in an all-over meander design with blue thread.  Quilt #2 was quilted along the ditch with a serpentine stitch.  The submarine blocks were quilted with three waves, and the 9 patch had a quilting motif done in free motion.

Compass Table Topper

My sister asked for a round quilted table topper as a Christmas gift.  I decided to make a compass design with a band encircling the compass.  She asked that the colors be taupe and cream.
The compass was paper pieced and then machine quilted.

Autumn Splendor Quilt

This quilt pattern is from American Patchwork and Quilting magazine, October 2012 issue, called Maple Tree Farm.  I named my quilt Autumn Splendor because all the beautiful fall colors remind me of God's gorgeous autumn colors back in the Midwest.  I pieced the quilt top in Fall 2012 and quilted it in Fall 2013, finishing it just two days before Thanksgiving.

Hugs and Stitches Blue and White Quilt

I designed this pattern inspired by a segment on "Sewing with Nancy" TV series.  I was given multiple strips and asked to make a kit for Hugs and Stitches.  I sewed the cut strips into a tube, cut across the tube by the same width as the cut strips were, and then by "unsewing" a different seam of each resulting tube strip could obtain a cascading  design of square blocks.  The quilt top goes together quickly and easily with no seams to match.
I was able to create 3 kits out of several strips sets.  (See May 2014 for second quilt made, Floral Garden Strip Quilt.)

Quilted with wavy line in white sashing and straight diagonals in printed squares.

The backing is a blue/white square print.

Animal baby quilt for Hugs and Stitches

This quilt was machine pieced and quilted for Hugs and Stitches.

The quilting was stitch in the ditch as well as wavey lines crossing thru square blocks.
