I made this quilt for Hugs and Stitches.  Machine pieced and free-motion quilted.

Glorious Morning

I made this quilt from a kit that was donated to Hugs and Stitches and was not big enough to make a useful quilt for this group.  So I took it home and added fabric and more piecing for a wall quilt.  It is a stained glass technique that I had always wanted to try.  I doubt I will make another of these type quilts, but at least have one under my belt.  The fusible black tape is really expensive and used a couple rolls to make this. 

I named it "Glorious Morning" because it reminded me of Resurrection Sunday.  I put a Bible verse from Job on the back:  I know my redeemer lives.

Claire's Quilt

This quilt was made for Claire Elizabeth Stevenson, born January 3, 2013. 

I made a quilt for her older sister Emma with a tree theme.  Her mom asked for a similar theme quilt for Claire and is my original design. The colors were based upon the classic Winnie the Pooh quilt set. 

Claire is my grand-niece.

The border fabric was also used in Emma's quilt.

 Close-up of quilting.  I stitched an all-over meander in the body, outlined stitched the tree and leaves, and free-motion quilted a vine/leaf motif in the border.

Simple Simon queen quilt

I made this Simple Simon quilt during a class given by Mark Lipinski at SCVQA.  It was machine pieced and then machine quilted at Prairie Queens Quilt Shop in San Jose, CA.  I use it on my antique bed during the fall months.

 

I made two pillow shams out of the leftover fabric.

During December, I flip the quilt to the back since it looks more Christmas-like.

 



Jessica's Grandmother's Fan baby quilt

I made this baby quilt for my baby Jessica in 1990.  It was machine pieced and handquilted.  Back then I thought machine quilting was an abomination and was not really quilting.  Times have sure changed!  I love to handquilt, but since it takes so much longer, I usually end up machine quilting. 
This is my 4th quilt.  I had made a machine pieced, hand tied twin quilt in college.  My second quilt was a hand embroidered and hand quilted baby quilt for daughter Michaele.  My third quilt was made in my first quilt class.  It was hand pieced and handquilted.

This quilt either was in the crib or on the wall for over 22 years.  I finally retired it and hopefully will use it for a future grandchild!

Interlocking hearts were quilted in the sashing and the borders on heart printed fabric.

 



 

The backing fabric is the same as the border fabric.

Mariner's Compass Quilt

I made this quilt top in a class by Brenda Hennings at a Santa Clara Valley Quilt Guild class in 2009.  I finally machine quilted it in August 2012.  It will hang with its "sister" quilt, Cosmati Rings, in my staircase.

I made two different smaller compasses in opposite corners.  I used a pebble background quilt motif.

 



 

The other small compass is a pinwheel design.

 



 

I quilted lines coming out of the medallion compass and ending in swirls at each corner.

 

 

In the purple batik triangles, I quilted a different compass design.

 

Nancy's Hipster

My sister gave me a Vera Bradley hipster and as I looked at it, I thought, "I could make that!"  So I drafted my own pattern and used the Bradley bag as inspiration.  I had some leftover black and white fabrics and used those.  The only things I had to purchase were two zippers, velcro, and black piping.  I didn't want to purchase new fabric since this would be my prototype and in case it didn't work, I didn't want to waste any money.
There are some things I would change if I make it again.  The Bradley bag has binding on the inner seams.  I tried that, but there were so many layers that my machine didn't want to handle it well.  If I make another one, I will make the outside of the bag and then make a lining separate as I usually do when I make bags.  I think that looks much nicer and finished.  I didn't like the zipper installation for the main panel either.  It was very difficult and somehow the zipper tape ends didn't match up.  At least it zips though.  I have another way of putting in zippers and I would do it that way next time.  I really tried to follow exactly how I think the Vera Bradley bag was made and I don't really like how it was done.  I think I can think of a better way.

This is the front flap of the purse.  It has a zipper pocket and is quilted. 

It has binding around the edges.

This is the back of the purse.  It is quilted and has a quilted pocket.

This is the inside view of the purse.  It has a plastic pocket for photo ID. 

Inside are four pockets for credit cards.

There is a zipper at the top (really was difficult to put this in due to thickness of multiple layers).

Tea Cup quilt

This quilt was made for my sister Susie in the 1990's.  She collects tea and coffee pots. 

Brandon's baby fan quilt

I made this blue and taupe fan quilt for my nephew Brandon who was born September 4, 1985.  This was one of the first quilts I ever made and although the piecing was good, I could have done a better job of tying it.  I didn't know how to quilt yet at this point.  I later made the same quilt in pink, blue, and cream for my daughter Jessica.  By this time I had taken a quilt class and handquilted it.

Heart Quillow

This heart quillow was made for my sister Susie.  Each appliqued heart is a different fabric.  It was machine appliqued and quilted.  There is a leaf pattern quilted in each corner.

Little Houses

I made this little quilt for my sister Susie back in the 1990's.  It was hand pieced and hand quilted.

Fabric dolls

I made these fabric dolls back in the 90's. 
The first doll was made for my mom.

Scrappy strip lap/crib quilt

I made this lap/crib quilt for Hugs and Stitches from a Fons and Porter magazine.  The design was from an antique quilt.  I was able to use scraps from previous Hugs and Stitches quilts I had made.  I am very happy with how it turned out.  Hopefully the recipient will enjoy it as well. 
I machine quilted it using a stitch in the ditch around the triangles and a wavy design down the strips and in the border.  I used a scrappy binding that was hand sewn to the back.

Folk Art Flower quilted mat

I made this for an Eddie's Sewing Bee class.  I didn't want to purchase new fabric and so used what I had in my statch.  I wish I would have used a different fabric than the green, but since it didn't cost me anything - oh well.  I plan to put it in my kitchen to put hot things on and to protect my new granite countertop.

Table runner

I made this table runner to put on my new granite peninsula in my remodeled kitchen.  My new colors are golds and browns and this fits very well.  My husband is concerned that we not scratch the new granite and so things can be placed on this to protect the counter. 

Rail Fence Quilt

I machine pieced and quilted this rail fence quilt for Hugs and Stitches. The quilting was an all over free motion meander pattern. I used my Flynn frame to do the quilting on my Espire sewing machine.

Children at Play Checkerboard

I made this checkerboard or chess quilt for my daughter Jessica. She is studying to be an elementary teacher (preferably 1st grade) and thought this might be a fun item to have in her classroom someday. The project was made in a sewing class at Eddie's. The blue fabric in the checkerboard is leftover from my girls' childhood clothes. It was a short set with matching white top (2 white squares are from this also). The white fabric with children is from Michaele's high school graduation memory quilt border and backing.

The little quilt was machine quilted.

Sailboat Baby Quilt

I made this simple baby quilt for Michaele's friend Monica. She requested a sailboat theme. The quilt is machine pieced and quilted in the ditch.

I used Minkee fabric as the backing and did not use batting. It is so soft and cuddly.

Stardust #2 Charm Quilt

This quilt was made for Hugs and Stitches.

I machine pieced and quilted it.

The donated fabric was already cut into squares and ready to piece. There was no pattern provided, but I believe the same person who donated the other Stardust quilt pattern and fabric from Backporch Press had donated this kit as well because the pieces cut were the same and the right number. So I made a second Stardust quilt. This one is a charm quilt because all the fabrics are different - no repeats - except of course for the stars. The backing is the same fabric as the stars. Interestingly, the star fabric is the same line of fabric as that used for my daughters' crib bedding over 26 years ago!

Evening Stars

This quilt was made for Hugs and Stitches.

The person who donated the fabric had a few blocks pieced as well as some blocks cut out and ready to piece. There was no pattern provided so I had to figure out what the pattern was supposed to be. Once I figured that out, I had to cut additional fabric that was with the original kit. I added the top and bottom borders to complete the stars and if there had been enough fabric would have added side borders as well. I don't like the incomplete stars on the sides.

Janie Wiens quilted it for me with an all-over meander.
