HOME pillow cover

I designed this pillow cover to showcase our new home state of Texas.
The letters were appliqued.  I found a Texas topography map online and sized it to fit in the "O."

Candlewick pillow

I made the candlewick panel about 30 years ago when I lived in Cedar Rapids, IA.  I have not used the pillow in years as the border fabric and backing had faded.  So recently I removed the panel from the rest of the pillow and made new borders and backing for it.  I have placed it in my front study/parlor on an antique settee that was reupholstered.

Antique wicker settee with pillows

I was given this antique wicker settee by a friend of my sister Susie.  I made the seat cushion to go with a twin quilt in the room where the settee is placed.  I also made two pillows as accents.

I Spy With My Eye quilt

I made this quilt to practice long arm quilting skills.  I quilted only the 1 inch sashing between blocks in order to quilt different motifs.  I also quilted border in a meander.
The blocks were from my stash.  I used 3" fabric squares from a Sunnyvale, CA quilt shop, Whipporwill, that had offered 3" charm squares from every bolt of fabric that they had in store for the year.  (Now out of business.)  I also used fabric from children's quilts I had made for Hugs and Stitches as well as from other previous projects.  I used a rainbow of colors for the sashing.
Hudson loves I Spy books so I thought I would make a quilt.  He is now 3 1/2 years old.  Jase who is now 20 months old also liked to find objects in the quilt, especially balls and animals.  I hope they have many more years of enjoyment with this quilt.

Space Quilt

I made this space quilt for grandsons to fit on twin bed that has a bed guard on the side.  I used it to practice long arm quilting skills.  I made the quilt out of fabric from my stash from previous projects for grandson Hudson.

Carpenter’s Wheel Christmas Stocking

I made this stocking for my husband Chris. He does woodworking and so I thought a carpenter’s wheel block was appropriate.

Bethlehem Rose Christmas Stocking

I made this Christmas stocking for myself.  I have never one before.  When growing up, my mom used to hang one of her old nylon hose (the single leg style) and fill it with unshelled mixed nuts, oranges, and apples.  Perhaps this was a throwback to her own childhood when they were lucky to receive even a single orange for Christmas.
I had made stockings for everyone in my family and decided it was my turn to make one for me.

Michaele's Christmas stocking

This is my first Christmas stocking I made.  It is for Michaele, my older daughter and was made when she was a toddler.
It is a Jan Hagara design and is embroidered with crewel yarn.

Jessica's Christmas stocking

I made this Christmas stocking for my daughter Jessica when she was a young girl.  It is a Jan Hagara design and is counted cross stitch.  It took many months to complete it.

Clayton's Christmas stocking

I made this Christmas stocking for my son in law, Clayton.
It is a Jan Hagara design and goes well with the stocking I made a long time ago for my daughter, Jessica.

The stocking is embroidered with crewel yarn.

Matt's Christmas stocking

I made this quilted stocking for my son in law, Matt.
He loves to golf, so I made a snowman golfing.

Jase's Christmas stocking

I made this Christmas stocking for my 1 year old grandson, Jase.
His daddy has a snowman on his stocking, so I decided to use a similar snowman as engineer of the Christmas Express train.  The wheels have buttons as their centers.

The wreath is embellished with tiny buttons and beads.

Hudson's Stocking

I made this Christmas stocking for my 3 year old grandson, Hudson.
He loves planes and so I decided to make a bi-plane with a golden bear as pilot.  The bear can be removed from the cockpit.

The main block is called "Star of the Magi."
The toe block is "New York Beauty."

Texas Twilight

Texas Twilight is the result of participating in National Quilters Circle block challenge.  For 9 weeks, a 16" block was designed for the "Snowy Day" quilt by Andrea Smith.
I decided to use some fat quarters that were purchased several years ago.  I added a light gray fabric for sashings and background of blocks.
I used 8 of the 9 patterns provided, but had to design my own block for one since I was running out of my fabric and had to design a block that would accommodate what fabric I had left.
I also added pinwheel blocks to the top and bottom as well as two borders so I could use the quilt on a twin daybed for guests.
I planned to take the quilt to a long arm quilter, but the one I attempted to contact twice never did respond.  So I ended up quilting it on my domestic machine.  I used stencils for the sashing, the narrow side borders,  and the top/bottom inner borders.  I designed the quilting motifs for the blocks, pinwheels, and outer borders.

Hallie's Ruffle Quilt

This baby quilt was made for Hallie Sienna Smith, born February 1, 2017.
She is the daughter of Chris' nephew Jeremiah and his wife Robin.
The quilt is 41" square.  It was machine pieced and quilted and is my own original design.
I incorporated a few fabrics from Hallie's older sister Nova's quilt.
I machine quilted a serpentine meander to go with the ruffle theme of the quilt.
